Project Description:
The proposed farmhouse for Mr. Shivaram Reddy is an exquisite G plus one structure located on an expansive 800 square yards of land, boasting a built-up area of 7,820 square feet. This project elegantly combines traditional architectural elements with contemporary design principles, creating a harmonious blend of heritage and modernity.
Architectural Design and Features
At the heart of this farmhouse is a unique step well, or "kund," inspired by ancient Indian water architecture. The step well serves not only as a functional water reservoir but also as a striking design feature. A skylight above the step well allows natural light to cascade through, enhancing the ambiance and connecting the inhabitants with the cultural essence of bygone eras.
To accommodate the client's desire for traditional aesthetics, two design options were developed:
Fusion of Chettinad and Kerala Styles: This option seamlessly integrates elements from Chettinad and Kerala architecture, characterized by intricate wooden detailing, traditional sloped roofs, and large verandas that evoke a sense of warmth and nostalgia. The design emphasizes symmetry, ornate columns, and carved woodwork, providing an authentic cultural experience.
Modern Façade with Kerala Interiors: The alternative option offers a contemporary exterior with sleek lines and minimalist design elements, while the interiors feature Kerala-style décor. This approach includes the use of natural materials, wooden accents, and earthy tones, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere within a modern context.
Interior Layout and Amenities
The farmhouse features a thoughtfully designed layout with five spacious bedrooms, two located on the ground floor and three on the first floor. The ground floor includes two expansive living areas perfect for family gatherings, while the first floor houses an additional living space that opens to a balcony offering breathtaking views of the lush greenery surrounding the property.
The kitchen on the ground floor is designed for both functionality and aesthetics, featuring state-of-the-art appliances while maintaining traditional design elements. The balcony provides a peaceful retreat, offering panoramic views and a tranquil environment.
Landscaping and Outdoor Features
In line with the client's preferences, the outdoor space includes a meticulously manicured lawn, designed to complement the Kerala-style architectural infusion. The landscape design emphasizes simplicity and natural beauty, providing a serene backdrop for the farmhouse.
Conclusion
This farmhouse project reflects a deep appreciation for traditional Indian architecture while embracing modern design sensibilities. By incorporating the client's vision for a cultural retreat without modern amenities such as swimming pools, the design focuses on creating a timeless and sophisticated environment. This project stands as a testament to the harmonious blending of heritage and contemporary design, offering a unique and enriching living experience.
